A construction worker from Amite was killed in a worksite accident in New Orleans on Wednesday. The worksite was near Loyola University and involved a dump truck and a front loader.

According to police, the victim was operating a dump truck. He apparently parked and stepped away from the vehicle for a moment. Meanwhile, a nearby tractor began moving forward, trapping the victim between the truck and the tractor, police said.

The man was taken University Hospital and pronounced dead, the coroner's office said. Further details were not available.

The man was working for A & L Underground Inc. The accident is being investigated by the local police department. OSHA will do its own investigation as well.
