Today in San Francisco on Nob Hill, four construction workers at a residential remodel site were injured when a cave-in occurred in the basement of the building.

The men reportedly worked for Dore Construction, and were using jackhammers and other tools when the earth came loose, crumbled and trapped them for a time in the rubble.

A report on the construction accident from SFGate.com offers details:

Investigators from the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health are investigating the accident - a process that could take two to three months, spokesman Dean Fryer said. The worksite has been closed.

Fryer said the investigators don't know whether the construction workers did something wrong to lead to the collapse.

"It's not the type of thing you see often, but obviously the type of work they're doing could have many pitfalls if they're not doing it correctly," he said.
