Information on tractor-trailer underride accidents

This dangerous situation occurs when the front of a small automobile touches the rear or side of a tractor-trailer (semi or large truck). The great risk occurs when the passenger vehicle underrides the trailer, and the trailer bed intrudes into the occupant compartment above and behind the hood. Tractor-trailer underrides have been known to cause serious and deadly accidents.

In tractor-trailers made after 1993, retroreflective tape on the rear and sides is required. For semis made after 1996, the rear bumpers are lower to the ground (22 inches or less) to help avoid this problem. It remains a fact, however, that many tractor-trailers without these safety measures are still on the roads and often have deadly consequences.

If you or someone you know has been a victim of an injury resulting from a tractor-trailer underride or other collision, we recommend that you contact a personal injury attorney to evaluate your case - free of charge.
