The world's largest toymaker Mattel in conjunction with the Consumer Products Safety Commission recalled some 700,000 Chinese-made toys on Tuesday because they violated federal lead paint standards. These growing problems represent Mattel's third recall in just over a month.

Mattel's newest recall covers approximately 675,000 accessory toys of the popular Barbie line that were left untouched in Mattel's first two recalls. Mattel has also recalled 90,000 of its "Geo Trax" locomotives for violation of lead paint standards. In addition, some 8,900 of Mattel's Bongo drums were recalled voluntarily by the toy giant.

Mattel's first recall on August 1st of this year notified the public of a first recall of over a million toys. Two weeks after that, Mattel launched a 9 million toy domestic recall for lead paint contamination in some toys and because of the danger of small, powerful magnets getting dislodged from some Mattel toys. This third recall demonstrates an affirmative effort by Mattel to rid its toys of toxic paint before the coming holiday season, when sales are at their peak for the retail company.
