Frozen Hamburger Patties Recalled from Sam's Clubs

The agribusiness giant Cargill has recalled over 840,000 lbs. of frozen beef patties from Sam's Clubs across the country after four children in Minnesota developed E. coli bacteria poisoning from eating hamburgers.

Sam's has pulled all Cargill frozen burger patties from shelves sold under the name "American Chef's Selection Angus Beef Patties". The beef patties were processed on a variety of dates - on Aug. 9, 10, 15, 16 and 17, and were sold in six pound boxes. The packages also bear the USDA mark with "Est. 924A" inside the stamp.

Cargill did not discover the extent of the problem with its meat-processing operations until last Friday, when patties that infected the Minnesota children were traced to a processing facility in Wisconsin. While the company is working with the USDA to evaluate the contamination of the meat, Sam's Clubs nationwide weren't taking any chances.

Consumers should be advised of any tainted hamburger still in freezers, and dispose of it immediately.
