Contaminated pet food and farm feed

A new development in the pet food contamination and recall fiasco has surfaced, according to many news reports around the country.

Though more than 100 brands of dog and cat food were recalled because of the presence of melamine, a dangerous industrial chemical believed to have caused the deaths of a number of pets, now hogs and other farm animals may have eaten feed contaminated with melamine.

One news channel out of California says that the government claims no pork recall is needed among animals believed to have eaten the contaminated feed because the risk of humans being affected is very low.

If that's the case, then why are they requiring the hogs to be slaughtered and that no meat from those hogs will be allowed to enter the food supply?
