A Montgomery, Alabama jury awarded a paralyzed woman $4 million in a verdict Friday, said a report from the Associated Press.

The woman, Carolyn Thorne, was paralyzed in a rollover crash that resulted when her SUV's tires separated after visiting a Wal-Mart service center.

Her car's tires were recalled in 2002 by Continential Tire Company, and she took her SUV in to Wal-Mart to have the tires replaced. They failed to replace her fifth tire, or spare, which was the one she was using during the crash that paralyzed her.

Thorne had her car serviced at the Wal-Mart on Montgomery's Eastern Bypass on nine separate occasions after the recall, but she wasn't told that the fifth tire was also defective.

Thorne was awarded $2 million in punitive damages and $2 million in compensatory damages.
