Traffic accident deaths increase in Alabama

WSFA 12 out of Montgomery recently reported the sad statistics about Alabama's increase in traffic accidents during 2006.

While nationwide deaths from motor vehicle accidents are down, the numbers in Alabama are on the rise. Last year over 1,200 people were killed on Alabama's roads, bringing the number up about 5% from the previous year.

Alabama State Troopers are trying to change that by increasing their presence in areas that have a history of accidents or are high-traffic areas. Troopers hope more drivers will slow down and drive safely.

Simple acts such as using a signal to change lanes and following the speed limit could save lives.
