Stay safe during holiday travel

More families than ever are planning to take to the roadways this holiday season. Starting the Thursday before Christmas through the Thursday after New Year's Day, the highways and streets will be clogged with motorists going to and from their holiday celebrations.

It's important to stay safe during these congested travel times. If you plan to take a road trip during the next couple of weeks, please be sure to exercise extreme caution.

Here are some tips to help keep you and others on the road safe:

Drive defensively and stay alert.
Do NOT drink and drive; a taxi or designated driver is well worth the extra time or money.
Do not talk on your cell phone while driving; pull over and make the call.
Wear your seatbelt; it could save your life.
Obey speed limits; a few extra minutes is a small price to pay for safety.
