Motor vehicle accidents injure six people

The Alabama Department of Public Safety reported a string of accidents on Interstate 85 yesterday that caused six injuries, none of them serious.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports that the first accident occurred when a tractor-trailer truck lost control and overturned in the northbound lane near the Shorter exit in Macon County. Later a car in the southbound lane ran into a guard rail as it passed the overturned truck scene. The traffic back-up from this accident caused a car to catch fire while waiting, and two other vehicles to collide as a wrecker pulled the car away.

As a result of this chain reaction of motor vehicle accidents, traffic in both the north and south bound lanes was backed up for most of the afternoon.
