Liability for road builders up for debate

The Montgomery Advertiser published a couple of interesting editorials recently discussing the push among road builders to encourage the state Legislature to pass new laws giving them liability relief when motor vehicle accidents occur on roads they have built.

On one hand, the road contractors want to be protected from frivolous lawsuits. They believe that if the Department of Transportation approved their project, the contractor should no longer be liable.

However, as one editorial points out, it could be dangerous for the Legislature to give contractors complete immunity. How would this affect their work and the care with which they complete a project?
